At the end of the last semester, Project Plasma had the fantastic opportunity of attending the MancheSTAR Formula Fusion and Hackathon at the University of Manchester. It was an incredible chance to immerse ourselves in the UK’s growing student fusion community and share what we’ve been working on.
Our team was particularly proud to showcase our mini fusor, a portable system specifically designed for networking and demonstration. Bringing it along allowed us to have detailed technical discussions about our progress in building our Inertial Electrostatic Confinement (IEC) fusor. We also enjoyed getting a firsthand look at the impressive systems being developed by the MancheSTAR Fusion team.
We also enjoyed networking with other universities’ fusion societies and attending a series of fascinating talks from industry leaders, including those from: the UK Atomic Energy Authority, UK Fusion Student Network, The Fusion Engineering Centre for Doctoral Training, Fusion Centre for Doctoral Training (Fusion CDT), and Dalton Nuclear Institute.
Overall, connecting with both students and professionals was insightful and informative. We want to pass a huge thank you to the MancheSTAR Fusion Society for being such welcoming hosts: we left feeling inspired and ready to push Project Plasma even further!
